Breaking into compliance when your title says something else

Many people arrive in compliance after doing adjacent work for years. Your task is to identify the evidence, translate it honestly, and target roles where that experience matters.

Inventory transferable work

Look for policy writing, audit support, risk tracking, stakeholder coordination, evidence gathering, access reviews, incident response, vendor reviews, or process improvement. These are building blocks of many compliance roles.

Close one specific gap

Avoid collecting training without a target. Compare your evidence with a real role, identify the most important missing capability, and choose a focused refresher or practical project that addresses it.

Prepare an honest transition story

Explain why your earlier work points toward compliance, what you have done to prepare, and where you can contribute immediately. Specificity builds trust with both recruiters and hiring managers.
